  8. FrontWindow  is  a  sophisticated file manager and directory
  9. documenter  for  Windows 3.1.  You can use it to perform the
  10. bread  and  butter  file  management tasks such as  copying,
  11. moving,  deleting  and  renaming  files and directories etc.
  12. FrontWindow also has unique features not found in other file
  13. managers.  Noteworthy features include :
  14.  
  15. !  File  Bin  -  this  is  used  to hold files that you have
  16. selected  from  different  directories  -  these  can  be on
  17. different   drives  or  partitions.    You  can  then  carry
  18. out  an  action  on  all  (or  selected)  files  in the Bin,
  19. such  as,  moving  files  from  different  directories  to a
  20. single  directory.    You  can  also  add  the  results of a
  21. find  into  the  bin  so  that  an action can be carried out
  22. on all the files which meet the search criteria.

  24. !  Bin  Backup  -  files added to the file bin can be backed
  25. up   to   a  set  of  floppy  disks.    The  backup  feature
  26. splits  any  files  that  are too large to fit onto a single 
  27. disk. The Bin  Restore  feature reconstitutes files.

  29. !  Directory  Tree  Backup - an entire directory tree can be
  30. backed  up  to  a  set  of  floppy  disks.    The  directory
  31. tree  structure  is  copied  as  well  as  the  files.    As
  32. with  the  bin  backup  files  are  split  across  disks  as
  33. necessary.    The  Directory  Tree  Restore  facility copies
  34. the   directory  tree  back  to  any  destination  directory
  35. and     reconstitutes    files    into    the    appropriate
  36. directories.

  38. !  Directory  Notes  - this facility gives a text editor for
  39. entering   directory   documentation.     Updated  directory
  40. notes  are  automatically  saved  to  disk  when the current
  41. directory   is   changed.      The   notes   for  the  newly
  42. selected   directory   are  automatically  loaded  into  the
  43. Notes  Window.    As  you  move  around  the  directory tree
  44. you  have  instant  access  to  your  documentation  for the
  45. current  directory.  You  can  search  all  directories on a
  46. drive  for  text  within  the  directory  notes to instantly
  47. locate, and then link to, a specific directory.

  49. !  File  Tags - the  file  tags dialog box allows you to add
  50. a  descriptive  file  tag  to  each  file  in  a  directory.
  51. You  can  search  for  text  within  file tags and instantly
  52. move to a specific file's directory.

  54. !  Print  Out  Directory  Documentation  - you can print out
  55. directory   notes,   directory  notes  and  file  list  with
  56. file   information,  directory  notes  and  file  list  with
  57. file tags.

  59. !  Print  Out  Directory Map - you can print out a directory
  60. map  for  a  drive.  If the map does not fit across one page
  61. FrontWindow   formats   the  print  out  across  two  sheets
  62. with connecting arrows.

  64. !  Compress  /  Uncompress Directories -  FrontWindow can be
  65. customised   to   work   with  a  file  compression  utility
  66. (Arj,  PKZip  /PKUnzip  or  LHarc)  so  that directories can
  67. be quickly compressed and uncompressed.

  69. ! Search Across Hard Drive/Network Partitions -Frontwindow's
  70. search   facilities   lets   you   select   the   drives  to
  71. include   in  a  search.    Searches  can  be  performed  on
  72. file  name,  file  size,  date  range,  file  attributes and
  73. text within files.

  75. ! Compare Files  In  Different  Directories  For   Duplicate
  76. Files - directory  contents  can  be  compared to  highlight
  77. files  with   same   name,   same  name  and  same  date  or
  78. different date, same name and same size or  different  size.

  85. FrontWindow.      Many   other   features  make  FrontWindow
  86. significantly  different  to  other  Window's file managers.
  87. Whether  FrontWindow will suit your style of working will be
  88. found  out  in  use  so  you  are encouraged to use it for a
  89. reasonable  period  (30  days  is usually cited) to find out
  90. whether  you like the program.  After that period you should
  91. pay the registration fee (ú30) for which the full registered

  135. To  install  FrontWindow simply run the installation program
  136. (FWSETUP.EXE)  from  within  windows.  This is done by using
  137. Window's program manager.  First place the installation disk
  138. in the A: drive.  To run the installation program you select
  139. the  Files  -  Run   option   in  program  manager and enter
  140. 'A:\FWSETUP.EXE'  into  the  'Command  Line'  edit box.  The 
  141. installation  program will uncompress and copy the necessary
  142. files  into  a  directory  called  FRONTWIN on C: unless you 
  143. specify otherwise.
